How do I know if my file is too large to upload through the e-filing web page? The e-filing web page has trouble uploading files larger than 10 megabytes (10,000 KB). You can tell you have a file size problem if the upload page just disappears when you're uploading your file. There is another way to upload those large files if you are using a PC with Microsoft Windows. You can use the "File Transfer Protocol" (FTP) built into Windows Explorer to upload files of any size. (Macintosh users can use FTP, too, but they will employ the Macintosh FTP program, instead of Windows Explorer.) 1. The first step is to telephone the E-Filing Help Desk at 1-510-208-4775. This process must be assisted by an E-Filing support team member. 2. Start "Windows Explorer". "Windows Explorer" (WE) is different from "Internet Explorer." WE is used to examine files on your pc.
3. Enter the FTP address. The "Address" field is near the top of WE. It runs horizontally across the top of the window. Use your cursor to highlight the contents of the "Address" field, and enter the following exactly as shown: ftp://filer:filer@www.scefiling.org Press enter. In the right-hand window of WE, you should see two little files, "document.pdf" and "Hello.txt". Those little files are on the Court's computer at www.scefiling.org. We're going to drag files from that right-hand window into a folder in the left-hand window. The left-hand window of WE shows the main folder hierarchy of your PC. The first entry in the list is usually "Desktop". 4. Capture the little file, "document.pdf". Place your cursor on top of "document.pdf" in that right-hand WE window. Hold the cursor down and "DRAG" that file over to the left-hand window and "DROP" it onto "Desktop", which is the desktop folder of your PC. We will use that little "document.pdf" file as a dummy file in the upload process. 5. Find your large file in the left-hand WE window. In that left-hand WE window, click open "My Computer" (if it isn't already open). Click open the hard drive or network drive where your large document lives. When you find the folder that contains your large file, click it. The contents of the folder will appear in the right-hand WE window. Your large file will be among the files showing in that window. 6. Prepare to drag the big file to the e-filing folder. Use the center scroll-bar to scroll the left-hand window down so you can see the folder called "www.scefiling.org". It's usually visible under "Internet Explorer." Do NOT click www.scefiling.org. Leave the focus of WE to the folder that contains your large file. 7. Drag the big file into www.scefiling.org. Place the cursor over the large file. Hold down the cursor. DRAG the file from the right-hand window and DROP it on www.scefiling.org. You may see the "file transfer" animation showing the file being copied up to the e-filing computer. Wait until this process completes. 8. Go back to your browser to proceed with the normal e-filing steps. Bring the browser into focus. Go to your e-filing in progress (you can always get there by linking to "My home" and then linking to "Unsubmitted Filings In Progress." Go to "Step 3. Upload Documents Click "Add a document" to add the large file into the filing. Select the Document Type. Enter the Title. 9. In the Document Upload process, substitute the little file called "document.pdf", for your large file. Remember we put that little file on your desktop. This little file will upload easily. After this little document is uploaded, the e-filing support engineer will swap your big file (that you uploaded using WE) for this little file. 10. This completes the process You can upload additional documents or submit the filing.
